Why has Ontario Implemented a Graduated Licensing System?

In an attempt to make roads safer for everyone, Ontario implemented a graduated licensing system that ensures all drivers have considerable experience before they are fully licensed.

Known as Ontario’s G Licence System, involves graduating through 3 different levels of testing: G1, G2 and Full G Licence. In order to become a fully licensed driver in Ontario, drivers have to attain the highest level called the Full G license.

How long does it take to get fully licensed in Ontario?

And the complete process requires a minimum of 2+ years of driving experience to be eligible.

How many questions are there in the Ontario’s G1 test? / What is the G1 Test Format?

There a total of 40 questions in the G1 test, and divided into 2 sections of 20 multiple choice questions each: Road Rules and Road Regulations.

What to take for the G1 Test?

Most Drivetest Centers have a dedicated test room with computers. So you will  not have to take anything but your ID documents and payment receipt (if you have already paid for your G1 exam). I know of one ServiceOntario center in downtown Toronto where the test is taken on paper. As far as I am aware, they provide with pencil and the essentials. But just to be safe, it is better to call your Drivetest Center and confirm whether the test will be taken on a computer or a paper.

Will I pass my G1 test?

You most certainly will. Make sure you know the logic behind all the rules before you practice the mock G1 tests we have prepared for you. That’s why we recommend you to read the book.

Can I take my G1 test online?

If by online you mean at home, on your computer? Then the answer is “No.” You have to go to a Drivetest Center in order to take the test under invigilation.
